Alpo Aaltokoski Company’s first production at the Dance House coming in October 2022!

Alpo Aaltokoski Company’s first production at the Dance House is an enchanting masterpiece, Whirls. Tickets on sale now!

A contemporary ballet masterpiece inspired by Finland’s national epic poem Kalevala.

Whirls is a three-act ballet composition by well-known Finnish composer Uuno Klami. His work was interrupted after his death in 1961. Finally, composer Kalevi Aho completed the work, and the internationally acclaimed dance artist Alpo Aaltokoski created a wonderful contemporary dance choreography in 2011. Bringing swirls to the stage has been praised as a cultural-historical act. Now the piece will be seen again as part of the Dance House opening year program.

Like Klami’s composition, Aaltokoski’s choreography involves a striving for timeliness and its central theme is people eternal pursuit of happiness. Each generation gets to find their own sampo. What does sampo laying golden eggs mean in this time?
