Fertility is a work by the dance group Ethno Contemporary Ballet, founded in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and operating in Helsinki since autumn 2022. It is a piece about feminine creation in the vortex of humility, disobedience and girlish passion. The old must die, because only then can new life be born! Fertility won the Ars Electronica State of the ART(ist) Award in Austria in 2024. The award is given to artists who courageously confront the threats of oppression, political persecution, unjust governance, environmental disasters or exploitation.
Alpo Aaltokoski, who is celebrating his 40th anniversary as an artist, is a choreographer, dance artist and artistic director of Alpo Aaltokoski Company (founded in 1995).
