“All-in-all, the working process for this piece has been unforced and free, as can be seen from the end result. I have tried to keep my work free and open with regards to the theme – expressions of different ways of being. Being happens and is realised all the time, consciously and unconsciously, independent of our own hopes or aspirations.
As the choreographer of the piece I have had a special need to allow myself and the whole work group freedom from the demands of saying something so called important. In the accelerating competition for people’s time, souls and money that is typical of our time, I want to offer this same freedom to the audience too. I hope that the work would create an atmosphere that would convey the importance of uncomplicated and “simple” ways of being as we dance in the spirit of the title: being is everything.” – Alpo Aaltokoski

Alpo Aaltokoski’s new work Being is everything doesn’t illustrate or say anything. As the title suggests, it researches forms of bodily being and how different kinds of movement and positions are born and expressed. [..] The work features Aaltokoski’s characteristic bond with elastic movement, but it has been enriched with many smaller details such as hand and even finger movements. Although the work counts on movement itself, it also includes quick associations with basic human situations. A reference to ballroom dancing gets instantly confused and the zombie walk slides into restrained lunacy. [..] The whole group dances uncompromisingly and with dedication, once again giving a concrete demonstration of the high standard of our contemporary dance groups.
